How to Care for Wooden Furniture in Bangladesh's Humid Climate
24 Sep 2026 · 2 min read · Trident Furniture
Simple, practical habits that keep wooden furniture looking new through monsoon humidity, dust and hot summers.
Good furniture can last a lifetime — if it gets a little care. Our weather is tough on wood: months of humidity, dust in the dry season and strong sunlight. These simple habits make a big difference.
Everyday care
- Dust with a soft, dry cloth every few days. Dust is slightly abrasive and slowly dulls a finish.
- Wipe spills straight away. Use a cloth that is only slightly damp, then dry the area.
- Use coasters and mats. Hot cups, cold glasses and wet pots leave white rings on polished surfaces.
- Avoid harsh cleaners. Bleach, strong detergents and ammonia can damage lacquer and polish.
Managing humidity
Wood takes in moisture in the monsoon and releases it in dry months. Sudden changes cause problems, so:
- Keep furniture a few centimetres away from damp walls.
- Keep rooms ventilated — open windows on dry days and use fans.
- Do not place furniture right next to an air conditioner outlet.
- Put a few silica gel packets in wardrobes and drawers during the rainy season to protect clothes and wood.
If a drawer or door becomes tight in the monsoon, do not plane it — it will usually loosen again when the air is drier.
Sun and heat
Direct sunlight fades and dries wood finishes. Use curtains or blinds in the afternoon, and rotate items on tabletops occasionally so the colour changes evenly.
Termites and insects
- Check the back and the legs of furniture a few times a year for small holes or fine powder.
- Keep furniture off wet floors and away from cracks in walls.
- If you see signs of termites, call a professional pest-control service early — quick action saves the piece.
Polish and finish care
Polished furniture benefits from a quality furniture polish or wax a few times a year. Lacquered (PU) and melamine surfaces only need a damp cloth and a dry wipe. Always test any product on a hidden spot first.
Hardware
Once or twice a year, tighten loose screws on hinges and handles, and clean drawer runners. Small adjustments prevent bigger repairs later.
With these habits, your furniture will stay beautiful for many years. If something needs repair, contact our team — we are happy to help.
